Originally founded in 2004 as a high level IT Company, in 2015 we embarked on the business of decorating apparel, providing custom-decorated workwear and kids clothing. In 2020 we expanded into designing and manufacturing our own custom clothing, creating a full range of fully custom clothing using the dye sublimation process, supplying to some iconic companies and brands.
In 2021, we were actively researching DTF and the hardware that was available, and how this technology was evolving very quickly. In 2022 we invested in our own DTF printing equipment and, to put the technology to the test (whilst still looking after our existing customers), we created a lifestyle brand which sold colourful and artistic t-shirts & hoodies exclusively on the Etsy platform. During the run up to Christmas, business and demand were booming, and it was clear that DTF had already started to completely revolutionise the apparel business. However, as the Christmas season came to a close, and sales were inevitably slowing down, this is where some of the limitations of DTF equipment became apparent.
Essentially, DTF equipment requires a LOT of maintenance in order to work at its best. If the printer is not used every day, the inks will clog the lines and the heads, meaning extensive time and effort is needed to perform the required cleaning and unblocking, to get the printer to work properly again. Additionally, it takes quite a bit of time for the dryer/shaker to reach operating temperature before you can begin to print. This uses up a lot of electricity. And last but not least, all the consumables (ie the inks, film and powder) required for DTF are very sensitive to temperature and humidity. In short, if you want to get the best out of your digital printing, the environment needs to be very carefully controlled.
Taking this all into account, it is clear that a DTF machine requires a lot of regular attention in order to work at its best. And one really needs to be printing several metres a day to make it worthwhile, and this is for a mid-level machine that uses more affordable components. However, an important fact to consider is that, even though you can achieve fantastic results with a mid-level machine, it simply can't quite compete on print quality with a commercial-grade printer - both in terms of print detail and colour accuracy.
Having experienced the hard work involved to produce the best quality DTF prints in-house, we considered the possibility of out-sourcing our DTF printing to another supplier. However, after having tried all the main suppliers, we realised that other suppliers were simply not producing prints to the level of quality and consistency that we had been producing ourselves! It was clear that we were doing something very right, and that others too could benefit from this expertise. We therefore decided to take things up a few levels...
So, the plan became to bring all our areas of expertise together to create the ultimate place for digital printing. We invested in new state-of-the-art digital printing equipment (hosted in a climate-controlled environment 24/7), and we created a bespoke software solution to handle the complete process from start to finish - from creating/managing gangsheets, to placing the orders on our website, and to managing the preparation, production and delivery of the orders. He have built our system from the ground up to suit our specific needs, and to be capable of expanding with us as we go on. And that's not all. As well as constantly refining and improving what we do, we are also developing some new innovations of our own. There are some exciting things coming up in the near future!
